Final post for 2024

December 30:  So, I did a thing today. It was a pretty chill day with some walking along Route 66, driving by the Walter White house (where a crazy lady now owns the property, from most of what I’ve read), attempting to enter the Albuquerque Convention Center to see the Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, and visiting Old Town again. I am sad that we didn’t get to see the statue, as it was kind of a ‘bucket list’ type of thing for my oldest son and me. We’re fans of Breaking Bad and we were really looking forward to seeing some things related to the show. It was really interesting to see places in real life that we had only seen on the show. Walking down the historic Route 66 was also really nice. Knowing that the road has been integral in the expansion of human travel through the United States is kind of awe inspiring, if I’m honest. This country is not great at preserving history, because those who have the money want their ideas to be prominent so it’s nice to see something f...

Week 52: Family for days!

December 22:   Baking was a bust yesterday, so today I kicked out 6 pies. Well, technically it was 7 since I burned one and had to remake it. Thankfully one of the pies was a freezer pie, so I basically had to mix the ingredients together and freeze it, no baking required. In addition to that, the remaining pies are all pies where the crust bakes with the filling so I lucked out there. Aside from the burnt pie, I messed up the cherry pie. It had a lot of liquid showing when I pulled it out of the oven. I sopped some of it up with paper towels and left it to cool. It seemed to thicken up when it cooled down, I just hope it remains that way after it thaws.   We went out to look at Christmas lights tonight and when our night was almost over, I was pulled over. The officer told me that my headlamp was burned out. I explained that it wasn’t out, just extremely dim as we just changed it within the last week. He advised that we have someone look at it and he let me g...

Week 51: Countdown to Christmas

Image
December 15:  After all the sitting yesterday, my lower back is giving me some fits, but that won’t stop the march of forward progression. Today we are pulling everything out of the basement for Christmas. Part of the motivation for this is so I can get presents wrapped and under the tree instead of in their billion hiding spots. LOL! But also, the little one cleaned his room so his tree can be put up. We put on some Christmas movies and I let the boys take over most of the decorating since my back hurt so bad. December 16:   I was supposed to make pies yesterday for the work carry-in, but with my back hurting the way that it did I was unable to complete the task. I’m very thankful that my oldest is willing to take my youngest to his Acro class so I can make the pies. We didn’t spend a lot of time together today, but I feel like our time together yesterday was wonderful so I’ll let it slide that I dropped the ball on spending time together today. December 17: ...

Week 50: Good times with those I love

Image
December 8:  Tonight was a good night. My sister came over and as a family we (her, my boys, and me) sat down and watched Kubo and the Two Strings together. As my oldest son and I saw some of the characters and sets when we visited Seattle, we shared things we learned about the movie with everyone else. After we finished it, I started dinner and my sister put on a Christmas movie that her and the little one like to watch. After the movie was over, I took her home then came back to sort through some Christmas gifts that I purchased earlier today. I’m pretty pleased with a lot of them and I hope the rest are enjoyed. It was nice to spend time together with 3 people I love very much.  December 9:  The little one didn’t feel good today, so I called in to work and stayed home with him.  Thankfully, all he needed was a nap and he felt better. After he woke up from his nap, we snuggled in my room for a while. He then decided to watch one of his favorite Christmas mov...

Week 49: When the heck did I get allergies?

December 1:  A great way to begin the blog for a new month. I am writing it a week later and I have ZERO idea of what I did, because of all the other stuff that went on this week. I believe I went to the gym and I’m fairly certain I spent time with my little one. Beyond that, I’m completely lost. * face palm * December 2:  The little one has choir practice tonight instead of his acrobatics class. The 3rd grade students were invited to sing with the Community Christmas Choir this year. It’s a first and I’m very excited for the kids. I think it’s a great way to get younger people interested in the choir and maybe next year some of those parents will join, making it even bigger! All parents were required to stay during the portion of the practice with the kids (which was like 30 minutes) then we could take our kids home. It was a good practice and I hope the actual performance goes well.  After the practice, I sat in my car and chatted with a friend who has a child th...

Week 48: Pies, Thanksgiving, and a final reflection on November

Image
November 24:  To touch back on the blueberry pie from last week, I did finish it and passed it off to the individual who wanted it. Sadly, it was not reviewed on his YouTube channel, because it was devoured! So, I’ll count that as a win. I also did the calculations for the pecan and peach pies that will be going to family and I can safely make those today and they’ll be good for Thanksgiving meals. So, on to more pies. I’m so close to being done!  I’m also purchasing 5 lbs of cracked pecans from a former coworker. I’ve never shelled them so I hope it isn’t too laborious. At the end of the day it will really help my bottom line with making pecan pies though. A 1 lb bag of pecans costs like $13, where this bag costs $10 and some hours to shell them. No matter how you cut it I’m happy to help out a friend and have a bunch of pecans in my freezer, because I know there will be a want for more pecan pies in the coming month.   Since I am focusing on pies, I highly d...
