Week 6
February 4 -
I didn’t go to sleep until around 4 am. I really shouldn’t have had a soda so late in the day on Saturday, especially since I’ve been cutting back so much. Lesson learned!
I was looking forward to spending some quality time with the book I’m reading, but life got in the way and I was needed in other places. Oh well. I did get to read a little and I think that the reason life keeps pulling me away from the book is because once I really get into it, I won’t want to put it down.
No decluttering done today, unless you count getting the three pies out of the house and to the pie auction! LOL!
February 5 -
Back to work. I’m still a little tired from the weekend, so no decluttering today. I really need to find some focus to get this task completed.
I think I’ll go to bed and read some tonight and see if I can fall asleep earlier than usual.
February 6 -
Today is my oldest son’s birthday. He is now considered a man, as he is 18. He has frustrated me more in the last year than I can remember from any other year. I’m going to chalk it up to him being the age that he is and hope that the friction between us will subside one day (probably after his prefrontal cortex is fully developed).
My youngest got sick last night. He tried to make it through the school day today, but he was unable to do it. I told him to go to the nurse if he wasn’t feeling it, which he did. He’s not one to get sick often, so I picked him up and brought him home. He was banished to his room to stay in bed, read, and relax for the bulk of the day. About an hour before he would normally get out of school, he was feeling much better, so I packed up the recycling, and the variety of donations that needed to be delivered around town. I then packed up the car and proceeded to declutter the things I already had packed up. Talk about a relief! I took out 3 boxes of goods (various sizes), two bags of food, a few items that needed to be mailed, and all of the recycling. We came home with less than we left with, so I call that a win! We played a game before he went to bed, which prompted me to go through the games we have downstairs. I found about 6 that we don’t play, so they will be going into the next box of donations. Since we don’t have any plans for tomorrow evening, I think I will bring a box or tote up from the basement and go through it to find more to donate and recycle. Either that or I will gather up all of my little piles of stuff around the living room, kitchen, and bedroom and sort through those.
Today I also played catch-up with the dishes that were piled in the sink, cooked dinner, did the dishes again, swept the kitchen, and cleaned the cat watering station. I look forward to walking into a cleaner kitchen tomorrow morning, for sure!
February 7 -
The little guy is all better so we’re headed back to our normal schedule, which works out great because he has robotics club after school today. I’m glad he feels better, because I hate it when either of the kids are sick.
I listened to my audiobook some while walking around before picking up the little one from robotics. I was worn out when we got home so I decided that instead of pushing myself to do something that would likely exhaust me more, I called the little one into my room and we both played on our tablets while we hung out. He loves snuggling, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to give him some snuggles, while we both did something we enjoyed. Before we stopped playing games he was using me like a body pillow. Then told me he was never leaving. We went out for dinner with my sister, which helped me not continue feeling quite so exhausted. I knew there wouldn’t be dishes to do after eating and I could go back to my room and relax. Well, that didn’t go quite as planned, but it’s all good. When we came up the street, I noticed our neighbor across the street was struggling with something in her backseat so I offered to help her then we talked for like 30-45 minutes. It was an enjoyable conversation and when it was over I came inside and curled up in bed for a bit with my audiobook and tablet. I’ll likely go to bed early as I fear I’m coming down with something and want to give my body the space and time to heal itself. I learned a lot from when I had COVID and listening to my body was #1 if it says slow down, then you best bet that I slow down.
While I’ve been struggling on the physical clutter side of things, I have been doing a pretty decent job of cleaning out my extra emails. I’m going to take that as a small win.
February 8 -
Work was decent today, which was nice. I feel pretty accomplished with things I got done. I had to return to the building around 5 to supervise students in the club that I co-sponsor. They opted to work the concession stand for the basketball games so it was a semi-buys night. We ended up being there later than I expected, which pushed back the bedtime of the little one a bit, but his class is having a party on Friday and they can wear their PJs so I told him he could sleep in 10 minutes to make up for going to bed a little late.
I didn’t get any decluttering done today since I was barely home. I have continued to delete emails though.
February 9 -
Work was super busy today. I started a project yesterday to help a friend/coworker catch up some stuff from her “to do” list that is getting longer and longer because of a situation that is out of her control. I managed to get over half of the tasks done, but I felt like I was going cross-eyed at a couple of points.
After work, the little one and I picked up my sister and we went to a local town so she could get a new phone as hers was broken. The little one and I went to Walmart near the phone store, found some stuff to decorate his Valentine’s box and a few other things. After her phone situation was handled, we went to the library in that town to pick up some books the little one had on hold, then we went to the mall to stop at a few stores and ended our evening at a restaurant we all enjoy.
We got home and I just hung out for a bit before the little one’s father showed up and they left for the weekend.
February 10 -
It’s not even noon and I’m preparing to share my post for the week. I will be busy for the bulk of the day and will likely forget to post if I don’t do it when I have a little down time.
I likely won’t be decluttering today as I have a full schedule of things to do outside of the house, but I packed a lot in today in the hopes I can kick out some book reading and decluttering tomorrow. I know it seems like I’m giving a lot of excuses around the decluttering, but the beginning of this month has been busy and I think I was going to get sick if I didn’t take care and slow down. I have high hopes and expectation for the remainder of the month.
I’ve been reading some poetry today. It’s quick to read and easy to put down when needed. I’m also about ½ way done with the audiobook I’ve been listening to. Yay!
And finally, a photo of one of the pies that sold at the Pie Auction on Sunday. :D
