Week 2 (with pictures)

 January 7 -

I moved the puzzle today and worked on it for a bit. It’s going to be a doozie to complete, but it will be SO pretty!

Yesterday I managed to read a 360+ page book. I feel pretty good about that. I also finished Outlander this morning. It was okay. I wasn’t overly excited by it so I don’t think I’ll be reading any additional books in the series. I have too many books I want to read. I finished Elevation by Stephen King today also. Man, I sure do love weekends and the freedom to do whatever I please (which is usually reading)!

I did not get much of anything done on my “to do” list this weekend, so I’ll work on chipping away at stuff over the coming week, ya know, when I’m super busy doing a billion other things. LOL!

January 8 -

I did not work on the puzzle today. I had a meeting that I needed to attend and I spent some time watching the boys play in the snow. I also did some work specific stuff.

I didn’t read either. I’m in a weird spot with reading right now. I want to read, but as it sometimes happens, nothing I want to read is within easy access, and doesn’t count toward the library reading contest. I was a little restless because of it. I think that and the snow messed with me a bit tonight.

January 9 -

Snow day! While I didn’t work on the puzzle today, I did read a little bit from one of my library books. I also participated in one of our family traditions. On Snow Days I make cinnamon rolls from scratch, complete with cream cheese icing. I followed the recipe in terms of size and didn’t roll it out as thinly as I usually do. Boy did it make a difference! It was supposed to make 12 rolls, but I stopped at 9 because I was running out of space to put the rolls in the baking dishes. LOL! After baking them, they were HUGE! The recipe says they’re supposed to fit in muffin tins. I’m not sure what muffin tins the author of the recipe was using, but those tins must be a lot bigger than my muffin tins.

I also managed to prep and cook a good dinner for myself and the boys. We had seasoned pork chops, roasted potato wedges, peas, and cornbread. After the day of the boys playing in the snow, they devoured dinner.

I’m still doing a pretty good job of folding laundry when it comes out of the dryer (and putting it up) and making sure there are no dirty dishes in the sink. Both things are a big mood lifter and I’m glad I started doing them.

Tomorrow I plan on doing some cleaning and working on the puzzle.

January 10 -

Another snow day! I didn’t work on the puzzle again, but I did play a game with my little one. He asked early in the day to play a game and I told him we would later. That afternoon I told him I’d play Life with him, as he asked his brother to play it last week and his brother declined. The little one decided he’d be the banker. When did my baby get so big?!?!

I finished another book, along with deciding to tuck $5 away each time I finish a book. So, before I finished book #4 for the year I transferred $15 from my checking to my savings. I need to find a way to build up my savings and with as much as I read, this sounds like a good idea on how to save some money.

I didn’t clean today, but that’s okay. My oldest cooked dinner. Usually the person who cooks doesn’t do the dishes. After he gave a little bit of attitude yesterday and I ended up doing dishes after cooking dinner, I informed him that he’d be doing the dishes tonight. He got a little upset and I reminded him that I don’t want dirty dishes in the sink at night. He begrudgingly did the dishes, which wasn’t much as the dishwasher was pretty full and he topped it off with dishes from dinner.

January 11 -

We actually went to work/school today! I opted to wear jeans since I needed to clean off my car before going into work. The car hasn’t moved since Tuesday afternoon. LOL! There was snow covering most of it and I don’t think that the 15 minutes I get from the remote start will clear it off. After going out and cleaning it off, I’m pretty certain that the 15 minutes wouldn’t have been enough. Work was pretty uneventful, which is precisely how I like it. We had a lot of communication about the possibility of an AMI day due to more incoming weather. Expectations were sent out and students were abuzz with the idea of another day not in school. We ran a few errands to run before hunkering down again, since the weather is supposed to be sub-zero over the weekend.

I’m hoping to finish up my audiobook tonight so I can start reading the books I picked up at the library. I’m determined to get at least 2 sets of slips in each drawing I’m entering. That means 8 hours per slip and two slips per drawing for four drawings. That’s 64 hours of reading. I’ve managed half of that already AND the reading program goes through all of January and part of February. I’ve got this! Speaking of the audiobook, I worked on the puzzle tonight! The Pillars are starting to take shape, it’s just finding space for all the loose pieces so I can start filling in the space around the Pillars that I’m struggling with.

January 12 -

Snow day #3 this week! Plus we have Monday off for MLK Jr. Day, so I have a 4 day weekend. Wooooo hooooo!!! The little one spent most of his day here, with his father picking him up around dinner time. He’s supposed to be home on Monday some time. I miss him when he’s gone, but I also enjoy having some quiet when we’ve had so many days at home and he is always near me. I know he loves me and he’s getting better with personal space, but some days his mama is done with it. LOL!

I finished book #5 this morning. I have put $25 in my savings account in the past few days. If I keep this up, I’ll have a pretty fat savings account. *fingers crossed* I started a new audiobook, and a different, but new physical book. I also worked on my puzzle again. It makes my brain hurt. Maybe I can get some more done during this long weekend.

January 11 -

No puzzle today, but I did work my brain! I decided to work on some patterns for some cross-stitch patterns that friends have shared with me. It was nice to do some cross-stitch again after a very long time of not doing it. I’m really looking forward to April and really focusing on crafting at that point. Perhaps some great Christmas gifts will be created at that time!

I’m almost done with book #6 for the year and made a little bit of progress with #7.

It’s supposed to be extremely cold tomorrow, so I’m looking forward to making some stew for the day to munch on and staying inside. Since the boys will both be gone most of the day, I might just move the puzzle table to the center of the room AND pop in some BBC Pride and Prejudice for a great day.
