Week 3 (with pictures)

 January 14 -

I held true to my word! I watched/listened to Pride and Prejudice while working on my monster puzzle! After I finished P&P, my sister treated me to Mexican, then I came home and queued up Downton Abbey and kept working. It’s almost done and I’m so happy!!!! Taking a day and working intensely on this puzzle seems to be the way to finish it. Otherwise I get really frustrated and I want to quit. My next puzzle needs to be easier. It just needs to be. LOL!

I didn’t read at all today and that’s okay. I’m coming off a 6 book reading streak where all the titles have been average. I’m hoping that the next one I pick up will be amazing!

January 15 -

Today we were off school because of MLK Jr. Day. Which worked out well, because it’s still SUPER cold and they’re calling for more snow. Goodie.

I finished The Pillars of Creation! I’m so happy!!! It was one of the more difficult puzzles I’ve ever done and while it’s beautiful, it was tedious. After finishing it, I took a photo then let the little man destroy it. He was very excited. He selected the next puzzle, a 500 piece Lego mini-figure puzzle. Hopefully it won’t take as long, but we shall see. He’s supposed to help me with it.

Another day with no reading, as I was finishing the puzzle and working on the cross-stitch bookshelf. I discovered that I messed up, kinda big time on it, but I will pivot and make it work. My biggest goal for 2024 is to read some of my huge books, so I will just incorporate that goal into the shelf.

January 16 -

Another Snow Day. That’s 4 so far this year, if I’m not miscounting. I love my kids and my house, but I’d like to go back to work, please.

The little one and I opened up the Lego minifig puzzle and started sorting some of the pieces, but we were distracted by watching Ocean’s Twelve. The little guy gets pretty invested in it so I don’t want to distract him.

I picked up Gallant by V.E. Schwab and really devoted some time to it. I think I’m going to like it. I really like the way Schwab writes. It makes me want to continue reading. This will make the 3rd book I’ve read by her and I look forward to more.

January 17 -

Back to work!!! I was pretty accomplished while working today. But that’s not why I’m writing this blog, right? LOL!

I didn’t really work on a puzzle, but I did some more sorting of the Lego minifig puzzle. I keep forgetting to ask the little one to help. The pieces are bigger than what I usually work with so it might be easy for him to help sort. I’m actually kind of excited to do this puzzle together. My hope is that we can finish sorting it tomorrow and begin the work on the border.

I’ve done some reading in Gallant. OMG! I’m about 33% done with it and I’m super invested so far. I don’t really want to put it down, but I know life calls and I must. Perhaps I’ll have some time to read tomorrow.

January 18 -

The little guy and I really focused on the Lego Minifig puzzle today and we finished it in one setting! Compared to The Pillars of creation, it was a breeze, but it really pushed him out of his box because it was the biggest puzzle he’d ever worked on. He was very proud of himself, and for all of his hard work, I wanted him to put the final pieces in so he could feel that sense of accomplishment that comes from finishing a puzzle.

I also read tonight before bed. Gallant is getting good and I’m very glad that the weekend is coming up so I can spend some quality time with the book and try to finish it.

January 19 -

I started a new puzzle today! I hope to be done with it in a week, but we shall see how quickly it goes.

While working on the puzzle, I listened to an audiobook called The Outliers and it is quite fascinating. It’s a non-fiction book, which I typically don’t listen to, but it was suggested by a friend and my local library has it through the Libby app, so I snagged it. I am glad I did.

January 20 -

Today we went to a bigger city nearby so the little one could spend time with his dad and I could take care of some errands. Two birds, one stone, ya know. We met up with his dad and I was given a time they would be done, which was about 5 hours. That gave me a LOT of time to get done the errands. One of such errands was to pick out books from an independent bookstore, which was awesome! I had a great time picking out some books for the students at the high school and an even better time picking out books for my coworkers!

I didn’t work on the puzzle (though I may spend some time with it before I go to bed at some point after I post this). I did read about half of Gallant. It’s getting quite interesting and I’m excited to see how it ends. Maybe I won’t do the puzzle and just snuggle up with the book and finish it.

See you next week with more updates and photos!
