Week 18 - A Week of Lasts

 April 28 -

Well, life has other plans. The little one and I did not craft. I ended up working on the senior video all day. So, I crafted, but just not Christmas cards.

April 29 -

I did not craft today as I am a little burned out from the senior video. So I will veg out and watch TV for a bit.

April 30 -

Tonight was the final band concert for my oldest. It was a wonderful time and I only cried a bit. I was told by more than one person he was enjoyable to watch at the concert. His facial expressions were on full display! After the concert, he hung out with some fellow musicians at the school and I took my sister and the little one home. It was a good night.

This is a senior tradition. The director of bands speaks about each student and the impact they have on the band. She spoke about his love of music and how he manages to sneak it into pretty much every conversation he has with someone. What you can't see is that on his left arm, near his elbow is a tattoo that he got last week that is a music note with a heart, an abstract version of the Space Needle, and an airplane.

Overall, I did not accomplish as much as I wanted this month, but I am thankful for the opportunity to try something new in the realm of crafting along with being the one to create the senior video. I know it will be done in time and I think the students will enjoy seeing all the group photos that span their entire school careers. I finished gluing 40 of the Christmas cards, so I’ll just need some star stickers for tree toppers, and a stamp for the inside that says something like “Happy Holidays” to complete them. With all the prep work I did in terms of labeling envelopes and pre-cutting the strips to ½” I think that making more cards in the fall will be pretty easy. If I’m feeling froggy, I may even complete a bunch and put them in some kind of craft fair in bundles with envelopes and make a little bit of Christmas cash. It also helps with my decluttering goal, because there are a LOT of Christmas cards that have been cut up (and even more that need to be cut up). I hate just throwing them away because it means someone thought of my little family, but repurposing them is almost like I’m responding by thinking of those I send the cards to. After it leaves my hands, it’s up to the person receiving it, but it makes me feel good.

May 1 -

The goals this month are to finish up home projects. I foresee this one being one of my most daunting tasks to date. With the current weather forecast (and previous weather in April) the ability to paint outside is pretty much non-existent. Plus with graduation looming for my oldest, I have a lot of lasts that I must attend to before it’s all said and done this month.

I did pull some weeds in one of my flower beds, but that was the extent of my home project work today. I spent a lot of time stressing and working on the senior video (from April) and it’s caused me to fall behind in a few areas at work so I have been staying up way too late finishing tasks.

May 2 -

I did not do any home projects, however I unlocked the problem with the senior video and now I have to fix the problem, which is also extremely time consuming. I look forward to being done with the video. As happens every year, I learned a lot. I’ve also managed to stay up very late again.

May 3 -

Four hours of sleep. That was all I got last night because I realized there was a variety of things I needed to get done, but didn’t have time to do at work. I basically put in my 8 hours at work then an additional 8 at home. However, on the bright side, the issue I was having with the senior video has been fixed AND it’s almost complete. I just have to add the music and download the entire video.

A student invited me to her graduation party, so after my oldest traveled to a nearby town to pick up his tuxedo for prom tomorrow, we grabbed some food then headed to the party. I didn’t stay long, because after eating dinner my body was like “girl, it’s time to relax”. So, the little one and I left. We came home and I went to my room to lay in bed for a bit. The next thing I knew, it was like 5:45 am on Saturday. Guess those two nights of little sleep finally caught up with me.

May 4 -

As stated from yesterday, I woke up really early today, because my body FINALLY got enough rest from the stress I’ve been putting it through trying to finish the senior video along with other parts of my job that require a lot of me at the end of the year. Please do not mistake this for complaining, because I am not. I love the ebb and flow of my position. I have weeks (mostly at the beginning and end of the school year) where I am extremely busy. Then I have days where I have little to do but read a book at my desk. There’s no way to spread out the work that needs to be done at the end of the year, it all hits at once, regardless of how much pre-planning I do. And I’ve accepted that as part of my position and I make the best of it.

With the weather forecast today and decorating some photo booths for prom this morning, I don’t know if much will happen on the home improvement front. However, my house is quite the mess from my intense focus on my job this week so perhaps my home improvement will be cleaning, vacuuming, and making my home more comfortable for me to be in. The oldest will be attending his senior prom this evening and I can’t wait to watch him at Grand March. His tux is SO nice. He told me yesterday that he’s wanted one like it since he was in middle school. He just needed a reason to get one. When he attended prom his sophomore year, we didn’t have money or time to get what he wanted, so we settled on something that worked. This year we pulled out most of the stops. He has his fancy tux and I’m glad he wants to go to prom with his friends. He doesn’t have a date, but he has a friend that’s new to the school and they’re going to show up together and go to post prom after. I hope he has a wonderful time at his final prom.
