Week 43: I really need to finish that cake
I didn’t do jack shit today. I made terrible food choices and sat around all day. But, I did finish a movie and watched a beloved classic too, so that’s a win.

Today consisted of a nice long walk while the little one was in his acrobatics class. During the first portion of my walk, I came across a family where the mom took photos of the kids and her husband. Initially I walked by them, but then realized how fleeting it is to have photos of your whole family that aren’t selfies. So I turned around and walked faster to catch up with them to offer (from one mom to another) to take some family group shots. She agreed and I took a few of them together. I continued for a bit longer after that and turned around to return to the building where the acrobatics class was taking place. During the walk back to his class, I came across one of the local librarians and she was staring off into the distance. I asked her if she was okay and she said her son had committed suicide the day prior. My heart breaks for her and I made it a point to tell both of my boys that I love them. The juxtaposition of those two events, mere feet away from where each happened a matter of 15ish minutes apart, really brings to mind how transient everything really is.

The little one had an eye appointment, so after picking up the oldest from his job, we traveled to a nearby town to visit the optometrist. After the appointment, we had some dinner at Steak and Shake. The little one asked to play at the park in that town that he LOVES. Since he had SO much energy, I acquiesced to his request. He had a great time, even being the bright spot in the day of a 3 year old boy who thought he was super cool since a “big” kid was playing games with him. It was also meaningful to the little boy's mom, who told me about it when I flagged down my kid to inform him it was time to head home. Overall, we had a good time and while the oldest read in the car, the youngest played, so I took some laps around the playground and simply enjoyed the weather.

Today I took a half day to attend an event at school with my little one. We had a good time, though he was pretty sad he didn’t win any prizes. He did get to spend his own money at the book fair and even opted to round up his total to help give teachers at his school some more books. Talk about becoming one heck of a reader! Not too many kids would do that. We walked home and then he went across the street to play with a friend. While he was playing, I went to the gym and had a good workout. Instead of listening to music like I usually do, I decided to listen to my audiobook. I just wanted it to be over. Well, it FINALLY ended. It was not one I’d recommend to others. The characters were pretty static (the second book I’ve read recently where that’s happened) and the main female character came across as a whiny bitch. Anyway, I’m glad it’s over. I’ve moved on to a book I purchased for the Media Center a few years ago. It’s only a 3 hour audiobook so I’m hoping I can kick it out in the next day or so. If I continue at my current rate, I might hit 75 books before the end of this year! That’s pretty exciting.

Tonight I worked concessions with some Key Club students. Other Key Club students offered up their talents at face painting at a carnival that was being hosted at a local elementary school. I think all of the students at both events had an enjoyable time.
I didn’t really do anything for myself today.
Friday, October 25
The little one went to a friend's house after school today, so I spent time reading with minimal interruptions. It was nice. I should have gone to the gym, but I didn’t feel like it. I really need to change my mindset in regards to working out and eating better again. I have one piece of cake left from my birthday celebration last week and I feel like rededicating myself will be easier without that temptation in the house. I can somehow avoid so many sweets, but this cake seems to be my downfall (at least this week). I will say that today, eating well was EXTREMELY difficult. We had a carry-in at work and some of my favorite snack foods were available so I indulged.
Saturday, October 26
I finished a book this morning and pretty much started another. Today I need to take the little one to get a haircut for his halloween costume and work at a local event with Key Club students. Oh, and I absolutely need to visit the gym. It’s so hard to find time when I can go to the gym and not be there when the high school gym bros or asshole older guys aren’t there. None of them have personally done anything to me, but they all just kind of annoy me for various reasons.
