Week 48: Pies, Thanksgiving, and a final reflection on November

Image
November 24:  To touch back on the blueberry pie from last week, I did finish it and passed it off to the individual who wanted it. Sadly, it was not reviewed on his YouTube channel, because it was devoured! So, I’ll count that as a win. I also did the calculations for the pecan and peach pies that will be going to family and I can safely make those today and they’ll be good for Thanksgiving meals. So, on to more pies. I’m so close to being done!  I’m also purchasing 5 lbs of cracked pecans from a former coworker. I’ve never shelled them so I hope it isn’t too laborious. At the end of the day it will really help my bottom line with making pecan pies though. A 1 lb bag of pecans costs like $13, where this bag costs $10 and some hours to shell them. No matter how you cut it I’m happy to help out a friend and have a bunch of pecans in my freezer, because I know there will be a want for more pecan pies in the coming month.   Since I am focusing on pies, I highly d...

Week 47: Confessions (of a sort)

November 17:  I failed to journal today, so as I’m playing catch up on Saturday, November 23rd, I have NO idea what I did on Sunday, November 17th. I’m going to guess I made pies. I don’t remember doing anything with Lego, but I may have. Who knows? The world is chaos at this point. I really need to do better with recounting my day. November 18:  I haven’t said much about this, but I’m having some issues with the little one's teacher. It started around Halloween, when the school district has Parent Teacher Conferences. My little one informed me that his teacher told him that if he didn’t do a better job of focusing when he returned from TAG (Talented and Gifted) she would have him removed from the class. This upset him greatly, as TAG is one of the few things he now looks forward to with school. For context, this kid LOVED school, and now he asks to mail his homework in so he doesn’t have to go to school. It’s only November, guys. It’s gonna make for a VERY long spring semeste...

Week 46: Cake and Pies - Oh my!

Image
November 10:  I spent some time sorting Lego tonight, but other than that I’ve been extremely lazy today. I think I’m still recuperating from all the running around previously.  November 11:  I have GOT to do better at going to the gym. I keep giving excuse after excuse to not go. I think part of it is because my little one is now old enough to be Youth Certified, but I just don’t want to share my gym time. I worked so hard at eating better and working out to let it all fall apart. I’m not pleased with myself and with the colder months and the outlook of seasonal depression around the corner, I need to get back in the habit so I can keep the sadness at bay.  I did get some Lego sorted and the little one put away the pieces in their colored drawers. At this rate, I don’t think I’ll get any sets built, but I will get the tables cleaned off some so there is room to play and build. Perhaps that will be my little win for the month. November 12:  Today is a pie...

Week 45: Too many emotions and Lego!

Image
November 2:  I am away from home this weekend, so I’m not going to be sorting any Lego. However, I am having a wonderful time with some wonderful friends! Today we went for a hike at a state park near the AirBnB that we rented for the weekend. Here are some shots from our hike. It is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! November 3:   The last day of vacation. So saddened, but also ready to see my kids. I’ve had an absolutely refreshing time. My soul is full of appreciation for my friends and the fact that we took time to be together and celebrate one another. Perhaps when I get home I’ll start sorting some Lego (per my challenge for November) while the little one works on his homework. November 4:  Today was a little busy since I went back to work after a little break. After work I had to do a grocery pick up, which was nice because the boys actually offered up suggestions on meals for the week! Woo hoo!!!!   I sorted some Lego on the 3rd and will be sorting some ag...

Week 44: October draws to a close and preview of November

Sunday, October 27  So, I started another book yesterday and read most of the day today so I finished another book. Shocker, right?  Yesterday I stepped on the scale after the last couple of weeks of poor food choices to discover that I’ve put some of the weight back on that I worked hard to take off. I’m not surprised as I barely logged my food, ate out more than I should have, and didn’t go to the gym as often as I had previously. Due to busy schedules and being exhausted, I let myself slide. I’m making the choice to do better from this point forward. I’m sure I’ll have slip ups, but the habits I have worked hard to build since late June are still mostly there. The hardest day this coming week will be Wednesday as we have a 12 hour day and I won’t be home to hit the gym. I will be wearing comfortable shoes so that I can do laps while at work. I’ll have to walk around the central portion of the school approximately 20 times. That seems excessive, but I have goals to me...
