Week 47: Confessions (of a sort)

November 17:

I failed to journal today, so as I’m playing catch up on Saturday, November 23rd, I have NO idea what I did on Sunday, November 17th. I’m going to guess I made pies. I don’t remember doing anything with Lego, but I may have. Who knows? The world is chaos at this point. I really need to do better with recounting my day.

November 18:

I haven’t said much about this, but I’m having some issues with the little one's teacher. It started around Halloween, when the school district has Parent Teacher Conferences. My little one informed me that his teacher told him that if he didn’t do a better job of focusing when he returned from TAG (Talented and Gifted) she would have him removed from the class. This upset him greatly, as TAG is one of the few things he now looks forward to with school. For context, this kid LOVED school, and now he asks to mail his homework in so he doesn’t have to go to school. It’s only November, guys. It’s gonna make for a VERY long spring semester. Anyway, I went to the conference with his teacher and she basically had one nice thing to say about the little one. There was a lot of negative shared from her and when she presented a problem he was having with his writing, she couldn’t think of a way to differentiate for him; but I figured something out. I don’t know if she’s implementing it in class, but it’s pretty frustrating when a seasoned teacher can’t figure out a way to differentiate for a student. And it wasn’t even a difficult fix, so I can only imagine what other kids are feeling. Anyway, today I had a meeting with the principal and vice principal because all the kids in his class are now getting nightly homework (after we were told at the beginning of the school year there would only be homework IF they didn’t use their time in class), there are passive aggressive messages sent to parents, AND I added in all the negative she said about my little one. I asked them for guidance on how to handle the situation, not to “solve” it for me, because I’ve never had to deal with this before. Which is saying a lot, because the trials and tribulations with my oldest kid, you know it’s not my first rodeo with a child who struggles in 3rd grade (and beyond). Our meeting took about an hour, then I needed to go to the store and make pies when I got home, so no Lego sorting tonight.

November 19:

A family friend stopped by tonight and we had dinner together! It was a very enjoyable time spent with someone we love very much! This friend is preparing to move and was stopping in town to get some totes from my sister and a few boxes of toys from us for her little ones. It felt good to give the toys to a family that will love and appreciate them, especially since some of them came from Dad’s.

 No Lego sorting tonight.

November 20:

More pies to bake, so very little time to sort Lego.

I went to the gym after picking up the little one from the library sponsored Lego Club. He tagged along while I went to the gym, which was a learning experience for him. He didn’t realize that you’re supposed to do sets and not just reps. So, he was initially bored in the first 15ish minutes because he did some time on the treadmill, then did some reps. After explaining it to him (while on a treadmill myself), he went back and did some sets instead of just reps. When I got off the treadmill to do my weight training, he took over that treadmill so he could watch TV. LOL! He’s short, so he can’t watch many of the screens on the treadmills. When he can get on one that fits him a bit better, he’ll walk forever. LOL!

After our time at the gym, we went home and I started making pies. Tonight was a makeup night from Tuesday. But, upon starting the pies, I realized that I am one pie pan short on the pecan pies (since they’re being frozen they need to be in a tin pan not a glass one). So, I nixed the pecan for tonight and just made some pumpkin pies instead.

November 21:

Due to the nature of pie baking, sometimes things don’t go as planned. One of the pumpkin pies from yesterday didn’t cook properly so I had to remake it. In addition to that I needed to make the pecan I pushed back and a cherry that is NEEDED tomorrow. So, it’s a three pie kind of night. Oh, in addition to that I gave demonstrations for three hours on how to make a pie crust, so apparently 11/21 is now the new Pie day. LOL!

No time to sort Lego, since pies are all I see now. But it’s okay, because the more pies I bake and sell, the bigger my fanbase gets and *hopefully* the more orders I can take in the future.

November 22:

The little one is having a friend spend the night tonight, so I’m taking the night off from pie baking AND the gym. My right knee is having some weird pain and I think giving it a two day break might help. They’re going to be playing with Lego so I HIGHLY doubt I’ll be able to sort through much of anything. LOL!

November 23:

The little one and his friend played so hard last night that they went to bed earlier than I expected! I listened to a decent chunk of one of the books I have checked out from the public library, because there’s NO way to focus on reading a physical book while those two goof off. Today I have plans to go to the gym, then head to our local Walmart to monitor students that volunteered to ring bells for the Salvation Army. Thankfully, I won’t have to be there all four hours, I’ll be there for two and the sponsor for another club will be there for the remaining two. I’m going to try my hand at making a new pie creation for a friend: a blueberry cream pie. He likes the taste of blueberries, but not the mouthfeel of them. So, I’m going to try to blend some down and incorporate them into a vanilla cream type of pie and hope it satisfies his craving for a blueberry pie. He even offered to review it on his youtube channel! So, I’ve gotta do a good job.
